So, I’m totally hooked on Japanese food at the moment. I’ve never really liked it in the past, but I’m completely addicted at the moment. Stranger still, as someone who previously completely avoided seafood, I’m loving sashimi as well! Bizarre, I know. So, when my good friend, the lovely Ms B suggested a dinner date at a local Japanese restaurant, I was pretty keen to give it a try – as much as I’m utterly and completely in love with Wabi Sabi, it’d be nice to have somewhere a little closer to get to! Turns out it was so good, I took Sous-Jeff back the very next night (I was going to cook Mexican for dinner, but all I could think of was how good dinner the previous night was, and I just had to have it again!).
We were seated at our table, and almost immediately, had our two little bowls of bean sprouts deposited onto our table. It’s a quite large restaurant (doesn’t look like it from the outside), and decked out with some little Japanese lucky cats, paws swaying at us as we walked on by, and pictures and clippings of sushi offerings and explanations on the walls. The staff were all Japanese as well, and very friendly and helpful. After being brought a bottle of water, we began to mull over the menu, and decided to order a few entrees to share. Here’s what we went through…
1. Harumaki (spring rolls)
Crispy shell, veryyyyy soft, sweet filling, and the absolute best mayo I’ve ever had! These were the highlight of Sous-Jeff’s meal.
2. Tempura – a piece of fish, 1 king prawn, and some veggies (pumpkin, carrot, eggplant and capsicum). Light, delicious batter, wasn’t as crisp as I’d have liked unfortunately.
3. Entree Sushi Platter – my favourite plate, especially since I’ve developed this new affinity for raw tuna! Soooooo fresh and soft, the fish literally melted in my mouth, was absolutely amazing!
4. Avocado Prawn Rolls – these were Sous-Jeff’s choice, but it turned out that I liked them a lot more than he did! Again, quality, fresh ingredients, delicious.
5. And last, but most certainly not least, my other favourite: the prawn gyoza. There’s not much better than pan fried, golden, delicious dumplings. And these really were quite amazing.
And the best part? All of this incredible food set us back only $55.00! It really was all very fresh and tasted just amazing; different to Wabi Sabi, but still the same high quality. I really enjoyed it, and was very surprised that a local Japanese restaurant offered such great quality food!

Would rate it 8 out of 10.
