about me

Multicultural Melbourne food blog was born when a twenty-something year old Melbournite with an epic love for all things food (me!), decided that if she couldn’t yet make a career out of cooking, eating, writing and photographing, she’d do it as a hobby!

Having spent the last 8 years studying and working in the health and wellness industry, I recently realised that my real passion was for food. I grew up in a traditional Italian family, surrounded by beautiful cooking and a true love and respect for food; working in an industry obsessed with what you looked like led to some body image issues for me and I stopped loving the wonderful foods that I grew up with, and that wasn’t how I wanted to live my life. My passion is for cooking, baking, experimenting, displaying, and enjoying food. And so, I started writing this little food blog to bring me back to my roots and my loves.

I am also honouring my love for writing and sharing what I know by working on my first cook book, all about the food inspiration that living in the wonderful multicultural metropolis that is Melbourne brings to me.

On top of that,  I’ve recently started a new career in travel and tourism, and I’m still following my love of helping people by running personal training, health & wellness coaching, and massage sessions from my home. Kinda crazy!

Right by my side through all of the craziness that is my life, is my wonderfully supportive husband, who’ll be referred to as Sous-Jeff throughout this blog. His name is not Jeff, so this isn’t a clever play on words. This is his self-bestowed nickname for all of our foodie escapades. It all started around 18 months ago when I first started watching Iron Chef. One afternoon, he sat down to watch with me. Alton Brown was making comment on what the Iron Chef’s sous chef was preparing, and Hubby asked, naively enough, why they kept calling him “Jeff,” and why both chef’s helpers were called Jeff. And who the hell was “Sue?!” I went on to clarify everyone’s names and roles, and was met with an “Ohhhhhhhh, I get it now!” A few weeks later, I was making dinner and asked him to pass me an ingredient, as I was running out of hands, and he christened him self my “Sous-Jeff.” I couldn’t do everything I do without him :)

Also by my side, is my very loyal, very beautiful, and very small Beagle, who’ll be known as the Kitchen Bug. He is named thus because he is like a moth to a flame when it comes to all things prepared in the eating arena. The Kitchen Bug is native to the kitchen, uses his cuddly charm to get close to food, and is quite partial to butter cream frosting and raw cake mixture.

And so there you have it, all about me and what brought me to sit down with my laptop and get writing! I’d love to hear from you all, so if you have any questions, or just wanna say hi, you can find me  at jess.multiculturalmelbourne@gmail.com :)
